BFA Exhibition 2019-2020

“Untitled_[recovered].exe” is a digital exhibition featuring the works of 10 senior students representing the Binghamton University BFA class of 2020. While historically the exhibition is a physical show in which a gallery space is rented out for the sole purpose of displaying senior student works, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 all physical events have effectively been canceled. This has left the BFA class of 2020 with a particularly difficult task of transitioning the show into a digital format. The sudden push to digital along with the burdens of the pandemic has created a unique situation in which students must think on their feet to not only meet the deadline of a show but also select works that can be enjoyed from a digital perspective.

The title, “Untitled_[recovered].exe” is attributed to the sudden “loss” of progress humanity has experienced within the past four months, as glaring issues within our societies have come to light in the wake of this pandemic. While the conceptual content of each artist's work varies, on a much broader scale, each student's work relates to each other through the underlying challenge of establishing a foundation as artists and creatives transitioning into what is now a pandemic ridden world. The show features a strong emphasis on mixed-media works, ranging from oils, acrylics, collage, metal and paper sculpture, printmaking, and various forms of digital art. A range of 3-5 pieces reflecting the conceptual outlook of each artist has been selected, dealing with themes ranging from Chinese folklore to commercial design.
